WiB Manila chapter empowers women in the country to be involved in the blockchain space
MAKATI, October 22, 2018 — Women in Blockchain (WiB) Manila, a community that involves participation between different experts working towards a support system for women who would like to explore the blockchain industry, will hold a launch event on Oct 24 in Makati City to officially welcome members of WiB.
The community aims to lessen the gap of gender inequality in this developing industry by providing workshops, conferences, and meetups conducive to inclusive conversations. These female-oriented events and activities promote productive collaboration between men and women in the industry. WiB Manila was established in February 2018 through the leadership of Mench Dizon, founder and CEO of TripClub. Since then, more women have joined the community and several successful meetups took place.
WiB invites all women and enthusiasts in the blockchain community to attend the event to build a strong foundation for them to thrive in this industry. The event is open to anyone interested in blockchain. Women, in particular, are challenged to take a proactive role in this industry because they are traditionally discouraged to enter the technology field. As the industry matures, it is more and more recognized that both technical as well as social, creative and leadership skills are valuable to succeed. WiB Manila intends to relieve these types of apprehensions while building a gender-balanced blockchain industry in the Philippines.
The program will include the following activities and speakers:
- Welcome / Intro to Women in Blockchain.
- Keynote speech from Co-Founder of PDAX, Yang Yang Zhang on Blockchain 101 and Why We Should Care
- Keynote speech from Co-founder of Intimate.io Leah Callon-Butler on Blockchain and Social Impact.
- Panel discussion on blockchain and its impact (Mench Dizon, Yang Yang Zhang, Leah Callon-Butler, Amanda Dominguez)
- Blockchain + topic – breakout sessions for 3 groups.
- Group questions and ideas on use cases.
The launch event would not have been possible without the sponsorship of Clock In by AyalaLand. The event was organized by Aiai Garcia, Jacquilline Romorosa, Yang Yang Zhang, Tracy Li, Ria Tiangco, Anna Pasetes and Mench Dizon.
The event will be covered by BitChikka, a local digital media for blockchain and crypto assets.
Date: October 24, 2018
Time: 6PM to 8PM
Venue: Clock In by AyalaLand, Penthouse, Makati Stock Exchange building, Ayala Triangle, Ayala Ave. Makati
Women in Blockchain (WiB) is a global community. Our mission is to ensure women’s equal participation in defining the impact of blockchain.
The community provides women with opportunities to network, educate and learn, and welcomes blockchain experts and novices alike. We focus on use-cases that foster an understanding of the empowering nature of blockchain and its social impact, specifically the redefinition of power and responsibility, and the potential for a more inclusive world. We accomplish this through local meet-ups, workshops, and conferences. Our events are open and inclusive, and while we are female-first, allies are welcome!
WiB started in July 2016 in New York and has grown to 2,400+ members. There are local chapters in 15 countries and counting, and Manilla is one of the latest chapters.
Globally, members are connected via slack, telegram, twitter, and other media and are self-organizing following guiding principles.
